The Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament is just around the corner beginning October 24, 2017 in Cabo San Lucas

Billed as the richest fishing tournament in the world, the Bisbee has become a iconic event in Cabo San Lucas over the past two decades and in many ways, marks the end of the summer fishing season and the beginning of the fall North American tourist season.

Bisbee Tournament Cabo San LucasThe event sees the largest influx of super-sportfishers and professional fishermen from around the world. The dockside events are colorful and entertaining, but prices tend rise to reflect the caliber of the attendees.

Local captains with knowledge of the waters seem to have had just as much luck in recent years as those with all the technological goodies to assist them. To a great extent it is still a matter of luck, to which the wagers are place with a competitive spirit.

The 2014 Bisbee was affected by Major Hurricane Odile, which left much of Los Cabos devastated. But this years even should be tropical cyclone free, with any luck, as it appears our tropical season has already drawn to a close.

This year will present a neutral El Nino condition, the first time in several years that the ENSO has been in a "normal" state, rather than warmer than normal conditions to the south as an El Nino. However, the waters surrounding the tip of the peninsula are 1°C to 2°C above normal, as is much of the Eastern Pacific
