Photography in Los Cabos for Weddings & Exclusive Events
Here is an exclusive Baja Insider interview with internationally
renown and award winning photographer Bruce Herman who is available to photograph
your wedding and any other exclusive event here in the Los Cabos area.
Bruce has found a niche as a photographer, for those elite weddings
that seem to be so popular in Cabo these days. Using his knowledge
gained from years of shooting fashion and advertising, Bruce is able
to give your wedding or event that special editorial and journalist
look.
I
have personally known Bruce Herman for the last few years and all of
us have seen his photography in many of the tourist and higher end
real estate publications available here in Baja California. Bruce also
sells his extensive stock photographs for publications and all kinds
of other uses throughout the world.
BI: Bruce, how long have you been a photographer and what experience do you have?
Bruce Herman: I have been a professional photographer for 30 years starting as an assistant working for top fashion shooters in Paris and then I worked another 15 years between Paris, New York and LA. I ended up that part of my life in Los Angeles, shooting editorial ads and catalogues for clients like Speedo, Bullocks, Body Glove and Vaurnet for example.
I
then began to photograph a lot of swimwear and sportswear catalogs on
location around Los Cabos. In order to spend more time here in Cabo I
began to photographing promotional material for tourism and
subsequently became the main photographer for Los Cabos tourism and
eventually won awards from two Presidents of Mexico for my
contributions to Mexico tourism.
Lately,
I had been doing a lot of real estate and other promotional shots but
then started to get requests to photograph some high end weddings and
found I liked it and was good at it, so it has turned into an
excellent niche for my photography business.
BI: Bruce, how has your experienced helped in being a wedding photographer?
Bruce: Being a wedding photographer, with my years of shooting fashion,
for publications and cover shots, gives my work a different look that
people really like. With my years in fashion photography I have a lot
of experience shooting under pressure with difficult models, art
directors and demanding clients and have learned a great deal about
working with and directing people.
BI: What kind of weddings or clients have you had in the past?
Bruce: I obtain clients for events and weddings at the top hotels of los Cabos like, The One and Only Palmilla, Las Ventanas de Paraiso, Casa Del Mar, the Hilton, Twin Dolphin, The Marquise and right on down the line. I recently photographed the wedding of Justin Hochburg who produces Donald Trump’s Show " THE APPRENTICE” and just in the last 6 months we have photographed Lance Armstrong and Enrique Eglesias for different projects here in Cabo.
BI: What are some for the suggestions you can make to someone planning a wedding in Los Cabos?
Bruce: Hire a good wedding planner but be willing to be somewhat hands on
yourself, but don’t plan the event down to the minute, unless you want
to be frustrated. It’s still Mexico, so leave some margins and relax.
Also, everyone wants to get married on the weekends but a mid week wedding can help your wedding to be the best it can be by taking off some of the pressure from the service providers like caterers, florist, musicians and of course the photographer.
I also believe it is very important to have a photographer/ client meeting before the wedding date to best accommodate what the client’s wants and desires are, as well as the timing and location for their wedding photos.
BI: Is there
a best time of day to plan for their wedding photos?
Bruce: Yes, find out what time sunset is and plan your wedding to be and an hour and a half at least before sunset so as to leave plenty of time for the golden sunset light. Everyone looks and photographs better in that natural light.
BI: Do you offer any other services for weddings?
Bruce: Yes, I also offer a quality video production team headed up by my
son. We can produce your wedding video and provide make copies of it
in several different formats for you.
