Snorkeling & Sunset Private Sailing Charters in Cabo San Lucas

Sailing Charter in Cabo San LucasCabo Sports / La Princessa Sailing offers regularly scheduled morning and sunset trips as well as part-day snorkeling trips. Private charters for events and even large family gatherings are very popular and more affordable than you might think!

Stephen and Rachel were on vacation together in Cabo San Lucas for the first time. They stood on the bow of the 46 foot performance catamaran as it raced across the Pacific near Land’s End. Despite the fact they were hardly kids, they leaned out over the water and yelled, “I’m king of the world!” recalling the movie Titanic. They didn’t care what other passengers on the boat might think – because there weren’t any other guests.

Buffet on the Spin Doctor Sailing CaboThe sailboat gracefully crisscrossed Bahia de Cabo San Lucas several times before heading out into the Pacific as the sun sank toward the horizon. As if on cue, a crew member appeared, presenting a bottle of

wine, a label with special meaning to the couple, along with a platter of various cheeses. As the golden light of sunset bathed the famous arch the couple was only distracted from each other’s eyes long enough to acknowledge a pod of dolphins which was enjoying riding the bow wave.

The onboard stereo played ‘their song’ only disturbed by the sound of the waves and the wind through the sails. They danced. As the last spark dipped below the horizon Stephen dropped to one knee and with the romantic stammer, asked Rachel to be his bride. All Rachel could do was nod her head and smile as tears of joy streamed down her cheeks. As they turned from the railing, with glimmer of Cabo lights behind them, the boat’s photographer captured there special moment, something they will cherish for many years to come.

Having fun on the Spin Doctor Sailing CaboRichard and Elaine had been to Cabo many times before, in fact, it was where they had been married 20 years earlier. Now they were here to celebrate their anniversary. Neatly uniformed crew members from La Princessa Sailing Charters met their guests at the dock gate. Each group of guests was escorted down to the boat where another crew member promptly filled their empty hand with a Margarita. The couple and their 40 closest friends set sail. While enjoying the placid waters of the Sea of Cortez, the guests enjoyed live music from a duet of local musicians. The spacious and stable decks of the large catamaran served as a dance floor for the guests, even those with the most timid sea legs. After the party had worked up an appetite a special events chef served up a gourmet buffet of sushi and salads.

Later that evening, as the guest disembarked, I overheard one of them say to Richard and Elaine, “I hope we don’t have to wait another 20 years for you to have a party like this one!”

Sailing in Cabo San LucasA marketing firm from California had a particularly good year in sales. As a bonus to it’s leading sales people they were treated to a long weekend in Cabo. Despite the record year the owner felt that the trip would enhance camaraderie within his staff. The focal event of the weekend was a snorkeling trip to Bahia Santa Maria with Cabo Sports. During the 45 minute sail to Santa Maria they marveled as whales and mantas played in the blue green tropical waters around them. Several of the guests took an interest in the sailing and the crew eagerly taught them ‘the ropes’. They learned very quickly the need for teamwork in handling the sheets of the big catamaran.

Stronger swimmers and team leaders were paired with those less experienced for a snorkeling treasure hunt. Within an hour a winner emerged, it was the business owner, who now had a more cohesive and effective sales team. Following the team building games the owner hosted the ‘awards ceremony’ and a lunch buffet was served. After lunch there was still plenty of time for the guests to soak up the tropical rays and relax.

Snorkeling at Santa MariaThe La Pricessa fleet of three boats has entertained thousands of Cabo visitors with their regularly scheduled trips as well as private charters. At least one of the three Cabo Sports/ La Pricessa boats sails every day with group and private snorkeling, sightseeing and sunset cruises. On open trips La Princessa guests enjoy open bar, chips, salsa and guacamole. Year round sunset trips and Cabo sightseeing sails have become very popular with Cabo tourists. During whale watching season, from late December to late March, La Princessa is one of the most stable rides available to get up close and personal with the California Gray Whales. The rest of the year visitors to Los Cabos can choose to take the popular mid day snorkeling trip to Santa Maria. Guests are provided with snorkel gear to explore the rocks and coral in this isolated tropical bay, just a few miles from downtown Cabo. Tickets for these open trips are available for $39 to $49 dollars per person.

Private charters can make that Cabo sailing experience even more special. Imagine having the entire boat to yourself or enjoy the company of your selected guests. You can enhance your trip with catered foods or live music, for up to 48 people. These charters are popular for weddings, rehearsal dinners, bachelor and bachelorette parties, anniversaries, birthdays, company events and yes, even solo sailing lessons with our crew. Reasonable rates for private charters vary, depending on time of year and amenities requested, and the crew of La Princessa will meet or beat the rate for any Cabo private sail.

And that brings us to the best part of La Princessa sailing charters – sailing. As the captain told us, “Those sails aren’t up there just for looks, we love to sail.” With her winged mast and composite material hulls this performance catamaran can easily cut through the sea in excess of 12kts. If you want to learn more about the mechanics of the boat, the English speaking crew will be delighted to teach you some of the finer points of sail handling. If the weather is right you might even get a turn at the helm! La Princessa is maintained to the highest standards and certified by standards equivalent to those of the US Coast Guard for up to 48 persons.

So when you are planning your next trip to Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo you should include a sailing charter on the La Princessa . For more information and pricing please complete the form below or visit La Princessa ’s website.
