Baja 1000 Race on DVD - "Dust to Glory"

Dust to Glory - Baja 1000 DVDThis review is by someone who loves Baja California and yet never has really cared about off road racing at all. In fact while I have been an extreme sports enthusiast for years I have had little to no appreciation for the off road racing that has become synonymous with Baja for many. Dust to Glory has changed that for me as I have been thoroughly entertained and informed by this fast action documentary produced by Dana Brown and Scott Waugh. Including information on how the race began and interviews with some of the racers from the 38 years that the Baja 1000 has run.

Baja 1000 Dana BrownA documentary video about the world famous Baja 1000 held in Baja California, captures the essence, emotion and adventurous spirit of this all out, no rules off road race held in Baja for the last  38 years. Within the first 15 minutes of “Dust to Glory” you will find yourself completely absorbed with the awesome photography, fast pace shots, mini interviews, incredible scenery, background music and comments. You will find your self only wanting more and more as Dana Brown and his Co- producer Scott Waugh introduce you to the incredible history and culture of this race held every year on a different course in the Peninsula of Baja California.

Baja 1000 Motorcycle entry

It has been for many years the biggest single event in Baja California Mexico and while it does not have the prize money of the Bisbee fishing tournament held in Cabo San Lucas it probably has a greater investment and a much larger following. There are over 200,000 spectators with no admission fees, one flat entrance fee for all participants and very little prize money; these racers; race to race and beat the clock and discover themselves in the process.

Bruce and Scott do an excellent job of really capturing the feel, the excitement, the challenges, the victories and the disappointments of this one of a kind event. As Legend Sal FishAfter shooting they ended up with over 250 hours of film to edit and then had to set down for 6 months of 16 hour days to get this film produced in 2003. To see this race from a bird’s eye, spectators and racer view is truly an accomplishment. Including interviews by past racers, victors, Mario Andretti, the race Marshal for that year and “the Weatherman” who is the center of all communications for the Baja 1000 really gives you a complete picture of what this race entails.

The Baja 1000 Weatherman

Showing the course from start to finish with outrageous scenery, the infamous “Baja silt” and many incredible jumps and crashes it will keep you wanting to play the “Dust to Glory video over and over. Dana and Scott really were able to capture the essence of what the Baja 1000 is all about. Including the major classes of Motorcycles, Trophy trucks, the unlimited class and class 11 which is the standard old VW bug you really get a feel for why these racers race such a demanding race for not much more than bragging rights.

The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 is run every other year from Ensenada to La Paz Baja California Sur. The only negative thing I can say about this video is that it is a shame they filmed it on one of the years it was a circuit course starting and finishing in Ensenada. It would have been nice to see them film this on one of the years the Baja 1000 ran the whole peninsula to La Paz as the original race was run in 1967. Other than this one negative criticism I believe you will be truly entertained and will appreciate having this in your DVD library.

This DVD will also make a great gift for anyone interested in off road racing, Baja and just overall action sports. So please support www.bajainsider.com by purchasing it here from our Amazon affiliate and enjoy!
