Spring and Fundraisers for the Less Fortunate of Baja

ankets for Ninos in RosaritoWell it is definitely Spring here in Baja. As the winter northers begin to subside in The Sea of Cortez the spring northers on the Pacific coast begin. It is also a time for younger people of all ages as the “Spring Breakers” are coming to towns like Tijuana, Ensenada Playa Rosarito, San Felipe and of course Cabo San Lucas. There is also lot going on for the poor children of Baja in the next few months as several different organizations Spring into action with their fundraising programs to help out in their respective communities.

To begin we have the 3rd Annual Amy and Vince’s, Fred Duckett Challenge golf tournament at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose del Cabo on March 6-8th. Al Jardine of the Beach Boys with the “Endless Summer Band” as well as a surprise guest (appearing Sunday only) will be playing at Campestre Beach Club for the biggest beach party of the season for expected 400 participants and additional guests of the tournament.

There is also a Free concert called “Lo Que Se Importa Es La Gente", with the above entertainers and Samantha Rae, singer, who represented Mexico in Teen Idol (she was 8th in the finals), as well as several other local musicians more. This concert is on the 7th in, downtown San Jose del Cabo Plaza with, from 2-5pm  to support the Los Cabos Children Foundation A.C. and Grupo Ray Thomas foundation A.C., for the sports, feeding and anti- graffiti programs of Baja Sur. These charities are only asking the public to bring donations of used or new soccer shoes, balls and or of course donations will be welcome. Represented also at this concert will be other charities of Amigos De Los Niños, Red Autismo, Niño’s Del Capitan, Liga Mac, Womens Wellness and Mobilize Mankind. For more information concerning the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation charity and or event please go to www.loscaboschildren.org

DIF helping the underprivilaged of BajaWe also just received information Diane Gibbs in Baja (norte) of the AMPI Realtor’s association and what they are doing for the children in their area. They have found that have too much time on their hands recently and decided to do something very positive in their area. After speaking with Mrs. Torres, the mayor of Playa Rosarito’s wife and DIF, Mexico’s Federal Family organization they have come up with 4 projects in their area including working to feed clothe and give blankets to the children of their area and more which are outlined here (Rosarito Charities)

The Del Mar Development Champions Cup is another big event on the schedule in March 18-22 at the new Palmilla Tennis Club. This event is with the Masters of Tennis like Herrera, Lavalle, Rafter,Cordova, Lozano and Sampras. For more information, schedule and to buy tickets please see the Tennis Classic in Los Cabo article.

Additionally in April there will be several more charity events to help the poor children of Baja. One is the fundraiser on the 16th of April to benefit the Grupo Ray Thomas A.C. at Casa Luca in the Pedregal. There will a buffet of appetizers, fine wine and refreshments along with prizes and a silent auction. For reservations, donations of prizes or program sponsorship please contact Steve Mills at (624) 109-1774 or email him at millss7@hotmail.com .

April 23-26th is the Cabo Celebrity Golf Classic, at the One and Only Palmilla Resort and Golf Club in Los Cabos corridor. This is to benefit the Casa Hogar Orphanage in Cabo San Lucas which opened in February of 2008. There two will be plenty of music with a U-2 tribute band called Mysterious ways and a band of legendary rock music legends organized by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Jeff “Skunk” Baxter of the Doobie Brothers.  For more information on this event please see our page Golf Classic Fundraiser.

There is one more on our schedule for June 6th in the beginning of summer called the 2nd annual Golf 4 Niño’s to be held at Baja Country Club in Ensenada. For more information you may visit the classified ad for the Golf Benefit. These are truly great organizations for helping the poor Children of Baja and since several are Tennis and Golf you might just as easily say it is time to Swing into Spring.

Please submit to us any additional charity events concerning Baja and we would be happy to publish your information on BajaInsider.com.

Remember as Dianne Gibbs put in her email to me an invite to all; “I know things are difficult in the USA [worldwide].....Come on one of these excursions with us to take basic items to these people,  and you'll soon snap back to reality,  that we are all so blessed.  Let's help "Bless these People" who allow us to share their country!”End
