Eastern Pacific Hurricane & Tropical Storm Information

BajaInsider Tropical Cyclone Information

Monday, 10/06/2008 10:18 AM MDT Temperatures will be a little cooler in Baja California Sur and a little warmer today in Baja California.Wind's in the the Sea will be light, under 10kts from the WNW through the three day forecast period.

Down south, Tropical Storm Norbert (red arrow) maintained intensity overnight but is still forecast to achieve H1 intensity later today. The storm track continues to shift in our direction and could bring tropical storm conditions to Baja Sur over the coming weekend. Further south is another area of disturbed weather (magenta arrow) which has the possibilities of development. In the Gulf of Campeche there is yet another developing system which may become a tropical storm later today as well but should have no influence on our weather.

The potential for Norbert to reach Baja Sur as a tropical cyclone should not be discounted. Today's SST Surface Chart is animated and the water has warmed significantly over the last week, The area of +30C water has increased as well as pushing +28°C waters west and north around Baja Sur. There has been a distinct increase in upper level humidity as well, all of which will support tropical cyclone activity. The statistical peak of the Baja cyclonic threat is between 9/22 and 10/7 and the latest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Baja Sur did so on 10/17. After this one we should be out of the woods though...
