Information on Tropical Storm Dalila
FINAL
- Tropical Storm Dalila dissipated some 800 miles west of the Baja
peninsula in July 27. The storm evolved from TD7E on July 21 and
traveled approximately 1800 miles. Maximum wind velocity was 50kts
attaining only Tropical Storm status. The system never made landfall.
Cabo San Lucas received moderate rain and some winds on Tuesday
evening and other parts of Baja Sur received scattered showers
through Wednesday..
The
current forecast from the NHC calls for Dalila continue westward into
the Pacific and dissipate over the weekend.
Tropical Depression 7E formed on the evening
of 7/21 about 390 nautical miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico. The
storm strengthened little on 7/22 as shear winds inhibited the growth
of the storm.
Tropical depression 7E evolved into Tropical Storm Dalila (Dă-lī-lă)
early 7/23 about 490 SW of Manzanillo Mexico.
On Tuesday, 7/24 the storm reach it's maximum intensity, just shy of
Hurricane 1 status. The storm passed closest to Baja early Wednesday,
just about 210 miles SSW of Cabo San Lucas. much of the tip of Baja
Sur received wind and rain as a result of the close passage. On 7/26
the storm turned westward, over cooler waters and is expected to
dissipate over the next few days. The air over Baja Sur was so dry
that a little north of the coastal areas only received verga rain
(rain that does not reach the ground)
The earliest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Baja in the last 50
years was August 15th.
