TS Kevin currently poses no threat to Baja California Sur and no further updates will be issued here.

Aug 30 Tropical Storm Kevin is moving to the NE toward Baja some 940 miles to the WSW. Although it is unlikely that Kevin will directly effect our Baja weather it may have a significant impact of the more powerful Hurricane Jimena several hundred miles to the east.

At 3PM TS Kevin was located near 15.3N 121.9 and was moving 360° at 0kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated 1000Mb at and winds are 45kts with gusts to 55kts. Forecasts call for TS Kevin to be eclipsed by the larger, more powerful Hurricane Jimena as Kevin moves to the NNE. Tropical Storm Kevin is not expected to make landfall but may influence the path of Hurricane Jimena over the next 48hrs.

Tropical Storm Kevin formed from TD14E on the afternoon of 08/29. Tropical Depression 14E was formed on the morning of 08/29 from an area of disturbed air stimulated by a tropical wave. It is unusual for the Eastern Pacific to have two active tropical cyclones at the same time. It happens on an average about once every other year.

Since TS Kevin is also moving in the direction of Baja we will continue to update this information as released by the National Hurricane Center.
