ILEANA EXPECTED TO BEGIN WEAKENING SOON...
Friday, August 31, 2012 9:39 AM MDT Hurricane Ileana (ill-ay-AH-nah) is moving over cooler waters today and will begin dissipate over the next several days as the system turns to9 move more to the west, out into the Pacific. Category 1 Hurricane Ileana is currently about 355 miles west of Cabo San Lucas. The spin-off from the system inspired heavy, yet very localized thunderstorms yesterday across much of Baja California Sur. Today that spin-off is moving northeast and will deliver rain to parts of Baja California. No additional threat to the peninsula is posed by this system.
Hurricane Ileana is currently located near 22.0N 115.4W and is moving 310° at 10kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated at 985Mb and winds are 65 to 80kts, making Ileana just barely a Category 1 Hurricane. Forecasts call for the system to move over increasingly cooler water over the next 48hrs where the storm will lose steam quickly.
Hurricane Ileana no longer poses a threat to the Baja peninsula, there fore the information on this page will only be updated in the case of a change in status of this system..
