Monday 14 August 2017 It will be hot and sticky again today in Baja California Sur with partly cloudy or hazy  skies as a result of monsoonal moisture drifting west from the Mexican mainland. Many places along the eastern and southern portions of the state will have a decent shot at some afternoon thunderstorms. Yesterday in La Paz we had more spotty but intense downpours on the western side of the city, but overall the region has been very dry this season. It is almost down to the point we need to wish for a tropical cyclone to at least make a close pass to the peninsula to provide us our seasonal rainfall. Last winter was also dry as a bone and without a tropical cyclone to bring us a significant amount of rainfall our water supplies will be in jeopardy soon. The northern state of Baja California is mostly clear, but temps and humidity there will also rise and Mexicali will have a shot at some afternoon thunderstorms.

Tropical Watch: Tropical Cyclone Jova dissipated but its remains are given a low chance of redevelopment as it moves west. Further to the south another area of interest is also give a very low chance of development in the next 48 hrs and an only slightly better shot at development over the next 5 days. I have posted the current Sea Surface Temp analysis and anomaly graphics. Due to the lack of bigger systems and the hotter than normal temperatures in the Eastern Pacific, our hurricane birthing region is as much as 3°C above normal, providing more energy to feed later season storms. Another Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) is moving easdt across the Pacific and we are likely to see another flurry of tropical cyclones in the next 20 days.
