Bahía de La Paz Rotary Club is holding a Noche Bohemia fundraiser Nov. 11, 2016 at Marina Fonatur under the full moon. The event will provide dinner and music by Damiana Conde and Ruben Barranco for $300 pesos. The goals of this event are to raise funds and awareness on the need for clean water in the rural areas of Baja California Sur. The state of BCS reports over 24,000 medical consultations annually for gastrointestinal infections. It’s estimated that those reports are only a small fraction of the incidence in the state, as many rural residents do not have easy access to health care.
The club, working with other clubs and Districts in the US, is currently applying for a Grant of $99,500 US through The Rotary Foundation to supply water filters for areas with no access to clean drinking water, including CONAFE Federal Rural Schools, DIF breakfast programs, 175 emergency shelters and over 1000 households in the rural areas of the state. This project is the result of over 8 months of meetings with various State and Federal Agencies to develop a realistic needs assessment and distribution plan and to coordinate an effective education program on personal and household hygiene to combine with the distribution of the water filters. The households will receive a cooler with a filter installed, and a stand for the cooler, as well as instructions on the care and maintenance of the filters. The EOZ micro-pore filter selected for this project is nationally certified as effective in removing biological contaminants (bacteria, amoebas, and protozoa). These filters are rugged, have a long lifespan, and are easy to maintain.via backwashing on a monthly basis. The emergency shelters will receive a 20-gallon container instead of a cooler to provide sufficient water for a larger number of people. We hope you’ll attend the event and support this important project. For tickets, call (612)1577101 or write morene4@yahoo.com
