The Annual charity event for FANLAP the childrend’s breakfast and scholarship program in La Paz is coming on December 6, 2015. Beginning at 10 a.m. and running through the day donated items will be auctioned and clothing and bakesale items will be available throughout the day. Subasta will take place at el Mangle, at the foot of Calle Sinaloa, the same place as in 2014.
The annual Subasta, started by Club Cruceros 27 years ago, was held at Marina de La Paz. The funds were used to purchase gifts for children in the impoverished colonias on the outskirts of La Paz. Since 2002, the funds have been used by FANLAP for our programs in the dining room, library/learning center, and scholarships in colonias Marquez de Leon, Laguna Azul, and surrounding neighborhoods.
This year the Subasta will take place at el Mangle, at the foot of Calle Sinaloa, the same place as IN 2014. The date is Sunday, December 6, the time from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
As always, we’re looking for donations of new or gently used clothing, household items, boating items; whatever you would like to donate. Please bring donations to the office of Marina de La Paz.
The event will include a bake sale, so donations of pies, cookies, candy, cake, all baked items are welcome. For bake sale items contact Sandy of the Yacht Masquerade, email jselterich@hotmail,com. Carol Dyer is in charge of our silent auction this year.

About FANLAP
OUR MISSION is to provide basic support of food and education for children and adolescents from impoverished areas to give them the opportunity to complete their education and improve the quality of their lives.
OUR VISION is to be seen as a professional, committed and transparent organization which offers an alternative resolution to the social problems of the community
FANLAP’s scholarship program was started in 2000 when present members of the board of FANLAP purchased uniforms, school shoes, backpacks and school supplies for five students to attend 7th grade. Since then our program has grown, and school year 2013-2014 we purchased uniforms, school shoes, backpacks and supplies and paid transportation and tuition expenses for 100 students to junior and senior high school. The sponsors of four students have elected to pay their expenses to attend higher education. In addition, we purchased uniforms and school shoes for 20 students at the request of CAPASITS (a government department which helps children of HIV positive parents who are not able to work) and supplied uniforms to children of our volunteer cooks, all moms or grandmothers of children who partake of our lunch program.
FANLAP operates a dining room, built in 2003, which currently serves lunch to an average of 180 children five days a week during the school year. 70 children also are served breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday to augment a program operated by the Catholic church which serves breakfast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Many of these children are from families which moved to La Paz from Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero and other parts of Mexico looking for work.
A library was opened on our property in 2005, and built a second floor in 2009 to house the books and computers supplied by the National Library System of Libraries. We have many programs to help our scholarship students and “Instituto de Cultura Municipal” is offering workshops to increase the love of books in the children of the colonias. Workshops will also be offered to the parents, so they may help their children develop the joy of reading.
