AT 9AM FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IN MIAMI: BLAS NOW A HURRICANE… EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN FURTHER…

WATCHES AND WARNINGS ——————– There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Hurricane Blas is churning away in the Eastern Pacific and continuing to strengthen about 725 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Category 1Hurricane Blas is forecast to continue to strengthen over thee next 48hrs and could become the season’s first Major Hurricane by Wednesday.  Hurricane Blas poses no threat to the Baja peninsula.

At 9AM Tropical Storm Blas was located near 13.3N 114.4W and is moving 265° at 11kts. Central barometric pressure is 994Mb with winds 65kts with gusts to 80kts, making Blas just barely a Category 1 Hurricane. Hurricane force winds extend out 20 miles in the NE quadrant and 10 miles to the NW. Fifty knot winds extend out 40 mile on the Eastern side of the system and 30 miles in the northwest. Tropical storm force winds extend out 70 miles on the eastern side of the system and 40-50 miles on the western side of Blas. Twelve-foot seas extend out 150-180 miles on the northern side and 90 miles on the southern side of Blas.

Forecasts predict that Blas will continue to strengthen over the next several days and may be the first Major Hurricane (Category 3 or greater) on Wednesday. Hurricane Blas poses no threat to the Baja peninsula as it moves into the Central Pacific.

The next update to this information will be a 9AM MDT Tuesday.
