On November 12 when the third athletic race “Moving to Mexico for Your Health” will take place in La Paz. it will be a fun run of 5 kilometers for the open category and shorter distances for the children.
The sports event is organized by the state health secretary and the Sudcalifornian Sports Institute (INSUDE), which aims to promote the prevention and control of overweight, obesity and diabetes. According to a recent heath survey Baja California Sur faces an obesity issue with the women of the state presenting the most overweight and the men thrid most overweight in the nation. In 2015 Mexico surpassed the USA with the greatest obesity problem, but the US regained the title in 2016. Diabetes is one of the greatest health issues facing adult Mexicans and the government has taken aim against the issue with a media campaign and health education.
Juvenile participants will gather on November 12 on the Malecon in the area of Palmira , where the children’s category will start, and will travel 100, 200, 400 and 800 meters, in ages of 4 to 14 years. There is no entry fee for the junior category.
Meanwhile, the youth category for young people up to 19 years and the open category of 20 years and more will travel the full distance of 5 kilometers round trip to the La Concha hotel area. These two categories will have an entry fee of $50 pesos.
There will be a prize giving in cash of 16,000 pesos that will be raffled among all participants in this race, which range from 1,000 to 5,000 pesos and will be based on the registration forms obtained by each competitor.
