WATCHES AND WARNINGS ——————– There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Tropical Storm Agatha has formed in the Eastern Pacific about 970 miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Agatha is expected to remain a Tropical Storm through late Sunday before entering cooler waters and being reduced to a tropical depression. Tropical Storm Agatha poses no threat to the Baja peninsula as it moves west into the Central Pacific basin.
At 9AM Tropical Storm Agatha was located near 17.3N 123.6W and is moving 290° at 11kts. Central barometric pressure is 1005Mb with winds 40kts with gusts to 50kts. Tropical Storm force winds extend out 40 miles in the NE sector and 30 miles iin the NE and SW sectors. Twelve-foot seas extend out 75-90 miles on the north side of the system and 15-45 miles on the southern side of Agatha.
Forecasts predict that Agatha has already reached peak intensity and as early as this evening will begin to diminish and is forecast to dissipate into a tropical depression by Monday afternoon. Tropical Storm Agatha poses no threat to the Baja peninsula as it moves into the Central Pacific.
Checking records back to 1948, this was the latest formation of the first named system in the Eastern Pacific.
