The eye of Hurricane Newton was over Cabo San Lucas at 10:30PM Monday night and the system has worked north-northwestward through the night, battering the coastal areas from Cabo San Lucas north through Cerritos and to Todos Santos through the night. at 11AM in La Paz we were entering another period of winds to 50kts and heavy rain at times. In total we receive just over 2″ of rain at our station.
We have posted the Unysis plot of the path of Tropical Cyclone Newtom. There are a couple of significant positioning irregularities, including a sideways jump in the path of Newtwo just to the west of La Paz.
All highways are currently open in Baja California Sur. Watch for localized flooding and never be the first to cross a paved flooded area. Don’t cross a flooded unimproved crossing, it is just asking for trouble, wait it out.
