A Mexican Vessel Temporary Import Permit or TIP

Below find a literal translation, with corrections, of the Mexican Temporary Import Regulations. In 2013 interpretation of these rules was confused by both the enforcing agents of Aduana, but also on the part of the cruisers. Painting your TIP numbers on the side of your hull is not necessary. In 2014 the rules were made simpler and the things that boaters can now bring into Mexico without paying the 16% IVA has been greatly reduced. Only serial numbered items like radar, outboards and dingies will qualify for TIP status. It is advised you get your TIP at your port of entry, if you are coming down the coast it is recommended you make that port Ensenada, Baja California.
